Mezzanine Floors

Mezzanine Floors

A mezzanine floor is one of the most cost effective ways to create extra space within an existing building. By making use of the empty volume above your heads, a mezzanine can effectively double or even triple your usable floor area without the disruption, expense and planning complications of extending your premises or moving to larger ones. Whether you need more storage, additional production space, new offices or extra retail area, a well designed mezzanine unlocks space you already own.

Double your usable floor area by making use of the empty space above your head.

Engineered for your building

Every mezzanine we supply is individually designed to suit your building, your intended use and the loadings you require, from light storage through to heavy industrial duty. The structure is built around steel columns, main beams and joists, topped with a high quality structural decking such as moisture resistant chipboard, steel or chequer plate, depending on the application. Staircases, handrails, kick plates, pallet gates and goods lifts are all incorporated to provide safe, convenient access for both people and stock.

Because the floor is purpose designed, we can work around existing services, machinery and racking, and create the column layout that best suits how you move around your space. The result is a clean, strong, professional structure that looks as though it was always part of the building.

Compliance and fit out

Mezzanine floors are subject to Building Regulations, and where the floor is used for offices or by significant numbers of people, fire protection, fire escapes and other measures may be required. We can guide you through the whole process, including the necessary calculations and drawings, and arrange fire rated cladding to columns and the underside of the floor, fire rated partitioning, emergency lighting and balustrading as needed, so that your finished installation is fully compliant.

A mezzanine can also be combined with racking, shelving and partitioning to create a complete, integrated solution. For example, the floor might sit above a block of pallet racking, with offices partitioned off beneath and a pick face of shelving on the new upper level, all designed together as a single scheme.

A sound long-term investment

Compared with the cost and disruption of relocating or extending, a mezzanine floor is a remarkably economical way to gain space, and because it is a demountable structure it can often be removed, modified or relocated should your needs change. Many of our clients use a mezzanine to defer or avoid the expense of moving premises altogether, freeing up capital for other parts of the business. We handle the entire project for you, from the initial survey and structural design through to fire protection, services and the finished floor.

All of our work is carried out to recognised industry standards by SEMA trained, CSCS carded staff, and we are members of the CHAS and Constructionline schemes.
